About the program
The Little Black Duck is excited to offer a new range of programs designed to focus on individual strengths and interests to help autistic teens build community and improve wellbeing.
These highly customisable interest-based groups are developed in response to autistic-focused wellbeing and adolescent research, showing that autistic teens
- Find it hard to initiate and maintain friendships, particuarly with non-autistic peers
- Are information based communicators, finding connection when sharing information about interests
- Are lonelier than their non-autistic peers and do seek connection with peers
- Find non-autistic socialising to be exhausting and challenging
- Autistic people develop connection with others when they can share their interests with them
- Have much lower quality of life than their non-autistic peers
Our interest-based social groups are designed to address these needs by developing a safe space for these teens to connect and form friendships.
