Summary:

This workshop unpacks autistic women and girls, and the “female” autistic phenotype

Aim:

To change how we understand the AFAB (Assigned female at birth) autistic presentation, recognising the diversity of the phenotype.

Duration:

  • 3 hours including 5-10 min breaks every hour

Learning outcomes:

  • How hormones and society impact on presentation
  • Is it a “milder” form of autism? Understanding how AFAB autistics, are misdiagnosed and misunderstood
  • Mental health in the autistic AFAB population
  • Discovering authenticity of self and the impact of longterm masking

Prior Knowledge:

  • An understanding of the neurodiversity paradigm
  • An understanding of neuro-affirming practice
  • A basic understanding of what autism is
